3) Spiritual Wellness Common Meal - Weds 4/18 7pm - Earl Hall
To explore this issue further, the Office of the University Chaplain, in conjunction with the Student Wellness Project, will be having a Common Meal on Wednesday, April 18th, from 7-9PM in the Earl Hall Auditorium, to discuss spiritual health on the Columbia Campus. Yes, that means free food! (There will be Kosher friendly, vegan options)
The goal of the Common Meal is to facilitate intimate discussions that allow students to open up about their concerns regarding personal faith and religion on the campus, and how these forces impact their lives.  Check the Facebook event for more info.
This might be a good way to listen to other people’s opinions on faith and religion on campus and share your own perspective about Jesus and faith.
4) “BURN”- worship and prayer sessions through April
The Burn is diverse in expression, non-denominational in affiliation, simple in focus, and missional in practice. Burn “furnaces” host monthly, weekly or sometimes daily sessions of unending worship, prayer and adoration that can last anywhere from about 4 or 6 hours up to 100 hours nonstop. Various worship and prayer teams take 2 hour shifts as the ‘watchmen on the walls.’
The worship team is not trying to lead the group in worship, they are worshiping as if no one else is in the room. With that being said, if you would like to sing along with the worship team, feel free. It is basically a time where you can come before the feet of Jesus in an atmosphere of adoration to Jesus!

Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.  Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?  And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home.  Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ —Luke 15:4-6

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. Zechariah 9:9

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.  But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.   - James 1:5-7

1) Kony, Taylor, Blahyi – Columbia University Looks at African Warlords

Wednesday, March 21 @ 6 pm – 9 pm. Location: Earl Hall Auditorium. Contact: Earl Hall Center, earlhall@columbia.edu

The brutality  of warlords like Joseph Kony,  leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda, and Charles Taylor, Liberia’s former president who led the country into a violent civil war, continue to haunt Africa.   Can crimes of this magnitude be forgiven?

Columbia University’s Center for the Study of Democracy, Toleration, and Religion (CDTR), in cooperation with The Office of the University Chaplain, will host a film on forgiveness and Liberia’s civil war.  Joshua Milton Blahyi, who went by the nom de guerre “General Butt Naked,” after his habit of charging into battle completely nude (he believed himself and his gang were protected by magic), is the subject of a film, The Redemption of General Butt Naked.  After his crimes, Blahyi became a Christian.  He now evangelizes, and seeks forgiveness, in the areas he used to terrorize.  The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s producer, Greg Henry, and Colin Waugh, the author of a book on Charles Taylor and Liberia’s civil war.
